How to Unfreeze Your Computer with Deep Freeze
Deep Freeze is a software program that prevents any permanent changes from being made to a computer. Deep Freeze consists of two states: Frozen and Thawed. When Deep Freeze is in a Frozen state, any changes made to the computer are forgotten when the computer is restarted. When Deep Freeze is in a Thawed state, any changes made to the computer are saved and remain after a restart.
Deep Freeze is useful for cases in which you don't wish to make permanent changes to your system or the documents stored on it. For example, you can use Deep Freeze to protect your computer from malware, configuration drifts, unauthorized software installations, and accidental system misconfigurations. However, sometimes you may need to unfreeze your computer to perform updates, install new software, or make other changes that you want to keep.
In this article, we will show you how to unfreeze your computer with Deep Freeze using different methods. Before you proceed, make sure you have the password for Deep Freeze and the access to the Enterprise Console if you are using the Enterprise edition.
Method 1: Using the Keyboard Shortcut
This is the simplest and fastest way to unfreeze your computer with Deep Freeze. Follow these steps:
Press and hold Ctrl+Alt+Shift+F6 on your keyboard. This will open the Deep Freeze login dialog.
Type in your password and click OK.
Select Boot Thawed and click OK.
Click Yes to confirm that you want to reboot your computer in a Thawed state.
Your computer will restart and unfreeze. You can now make any changes you want.
To refreeze your computer, repeat steps 1-3 and select Boot Frozen instead of Boot Thawed.
Method 2: Using the System Tray Icon
This method requires you to have the Deep Freeze icon visible in the system tray. If you don't see it, you may need to enable it from the Taskbar settings. Follow these steps:
Right-click on the Deep Freeze icon in the system tray. It looks like a polar bear on a blue background.
Select Boot Thawed from the menu.
Type in your password and click OK.
Your computer will restart and unfreeze. You can now make any changes you want.
To refreeze your computer, repeat steps 1-3 and select Boot Frozen instead of Boot Thawed.
Method 3: Using the Enterprise Console
This method is only applicable if you are using the Enterprise edition of Deep Freeze and have access to the Enterprise Console. The Enterprise Console allows you to manage multiple computers with Deep Freeze across a network. Follow these steps:
Launch the Enterprise Console on your administrator computer.
Select the computer or computers that you want to unfreeze from the list.
Click on the Action menu and select Thaw Locked Workstations.
Type in your password and click OK.
The selected computers will restart and unfreeze. You can now make any changes you want.
To refreeze your computers, repeat steps 2-4 and select Freeze Locked Workstations instead of Thaw Locked Workstations. aa16f39245
